Our Story

meet Nelly

In biology and biography autóctona defines a native species of a given region, that originated and evolved in the territory in which it is found. This project comes from the desire to rediscover traditional creative methods and reinterpret them with a modern twist.

Initially Autóctona was born from the need to share her personal story through something beautiful and tangible.

She created her first collections making table linens inspired by traditional native designs of South America and Australia.

After a long period of learning, growing and pivoting she now finds harmony between embroidery and drawing.

The idea behind her pieces is to tell personal stories through textiles.

Every work is unique.

Nelly lives and works in her small studio in Sydney, Australia.

She learnt the sewing craft in Italy, where she was born, at an Art School during her studies in Fashion Design.

She feels inspired by everything around her, taking inspiration from an image imprinted in her mind like a memory, a painting or a fleeting moment!

She is curious and loves experimenting day by day, just this way she can define her style.

There is a lot of spontaneity and freedom in the way she works, but it’s also balanced with extreme precision and meticulous detail.

“There are no rules about what I can create next.”
